Followers-explanation needed!

Can someone explain the followers bit on a blog? I dont get it.Personally, I add blogs to my google reader and follow them there. I do that with anyone that leaves a comment on my blog. What happens when you click to "follow" someones blog? I know i have followers and i see people appeal for followers. Im curious....please someone explain it to me :)

Havent stitched in a while. Probably a combination of having had a stinking cold and just wanting to lie on the sofa at night and stare at the tv, beautiful sunny days that have kept us outside a lot and Caleb refusing to go to bed at his normal time every night this week.

5 and a 1/2 weeks until we go to Florida!

when i follow a blog, it means i get a notification on my blogger dashboard that a new post has been posted and i click through to the blog to read it.

If you follow a blog, it will add it to the reader of your choice, also. I use google Reader, but I'm sure that other readers are similar.

I use Google Reader too. What I don't like about following blogs, is on GR it puts the blogs you follow in a separate folder. I don't do the following thing because of that.

I do the same as Elaine, but i just went in search and found Google Reader for the first time, lol, i had no idea you could read blog that way although i'd seen people mention it. The blogs i have clicked to 'follow' are on the Dashboard page of my blog and you can scroll through them to see up dates, although probably not as good as in Google Reader.

For me i would much rather visit the persons blog to read the post, then you can see all the other wonderful things they have on there! but then i'm nosey!

Hope you feel better soon.

I have GR. I just recently started to follow my followers, just to be nice. It does make a seperate folder, don't know why

I use google reader also to keep up with the blogs I read. I have joined some as a follower if the author is asking that you become a follower to participate in drawings, etc. It does put them in another folder in reader...

click to foillow puts it on your dashboard with new posts so you can read them in one go. Like google reader but I think kits easier as its on your dashboard. never got on with google reader. its a blogger thing. i don't like that i can't add other types of blogs to it but still i like it. it shows who is reading/following you too.

I follow the blogs that way. It shows in your google reader and that way I don't miss anything :)

To me, the Followers widget is just a way to let people know you are interested in their blog.

I read all the blogs I follow on Bloglines but add myself as a follower as a courtesy. As Daffycat says, it let's people know you're interested in their blog. :0)
