To run or not to run

I havent posted in over a week! So...what's been happening? Life's been busy.

Firstly, i am trying to decide whether to enter the Glasgow Women's 10k. A couple of women from work are and i would love to get fit and run for a charity but i hate running! Its painful...it hurts my throat, gives me chest pain, headache....give me any other sport any day. All that aside, we did begin training! On Wednesday we went out for 25mins at lunchtime. Thursday and Friday i went out by myself after work. I can run for about 13minutes without stopping at the moment which is pretty rubbish LOL Everytime im out running i think to myself "there's no way im running the 10k" but then i get home and have a rest and feel good for doing exercise and i think "yep, i'm definitely doing the 10k."

In other news, DH is going home to Canada on Wednesday for 2 weeks. All a bit of a last minute decision. Its our nephews 1st birthday on the 15th so he really wanted to be home for that plus the winter weather over here of rain, grey skies, rain, rain and more rain really gets to him! He needs that blue sky and snow! So i'll be dateless on valentines! Im actually thinking of following him over on the 21st just for a week. Then we can travel home together on the 27th. I can't decide what to do (can you tell im bad with decisions). I can't get 2 weeks of work at the moment, im too busy. The annoying thing is you pay the same for 1 week as you do for 2. However, the flights are a good price at this time of year. I'll decide this weekend!

On Wednesday we started a new youth club at our church. We have one on a Sunday but there are too many teenagers coming along now who need something else. So we are running a youth club every Wednesday night which i have to go to straight from work. Its a huge commitment as the youth work is generally left in the hands of 3 of us and we have to drag other people to help out. Seeing as our church has about 40members, its a shame noone else will commit.

So all this has left virtually no time for stitching this week. In fact, the only piece i did work on was my Dear Diary SAL. Here's this weeks progress (basically the house and the grass)This lighthouse really looks like one about 10mins away from where we live. This is the Cloch lighthouse. See the similarities?!Today will be a cleaning / tidying day and then tonight we are going to our friends house for dinner which'll be nice. Have a great weekend!

I think Harmien said it best! However-running the 10k would be an awesome accomplishment! Lovely progress on DD! Have you seen pictures yet of the new LHN? Hearts of America is gorgeous!

The fact that this looks like a lighthouse so nearby must make it even more fun to stitch.

I'm with your DH - I miss the blue, clear skies of home. I'm not Canadian, but the part of Maine I'm from is only a few minutes from the border.

I can't even think about running for 13 minutes, let alone 10K!!

You have made good progress on DD and its uncanny just how much it is like your own local lighthouse.

If you can go to Canada then my advice would be go for it. As for the run - well I dont think I could run for a bus never mind 10k but there is no harm in giving it a try. If you dont make it then you dont but if you dont even try then one day you may regret it and you will never know whether you could have done it or not.

Good Luck on the 10K.
There is a similarity to the lighthouses, how fun.

Have a lovely time in Canada, as I'm sure you will decide to go.

Who says you have to run all of the 10K, I'm guessing you can walk part of the way?

Great progress on Dear Diary.

I have that Dear Diary on my wish list - it's one of my favorites! Great work!

What an accomplishment that would be to run the 10k!

You wouldn't need to ask me twice if I wanted to go to Canada for a week. LOL.

Your Dear Diary RR is coming along great, and I can see the likeness to the Cloch Lighthouse.

run 10 k !!! me ? noo...but travel to Canada,yes!.. i really like the way the pattern look similar to the lighthouse.

Oh boy... I don't think I'd sign up to run 10 FEET. You are a brave girl (or very fit LOL) What a great feather in your cap that would be, though!

Neat that the lighthouse is like the one by you :)

forgot to add: It's wonderful that you are helping with a youth group! I know that when I was a teen, it was very important to have a place to go-- with "nice" friends and something to look forward to each week. Your time is a great gift to give :)

Hmmm snow and blue skies! Up in my neck of the woods (about 7 hrs east of Hamilton... where your DH is right?) it keeps snowing and we have grey skies. I feel this year I'm really being affected by the lack of sunshine.

Dear Diary is looking good.

Let me know if you're ever in Toronto or east of that (or Montreal). I'd try to make a trip to meet you!

I can't run far either, so good luck with that! As with the teens, I work with them too, it is a big committment, they really need us at this age! Have fun with them. I'm about half way done with the rr.

The lighthouse looks great.

I'm bias about Canada cause I live here and I thnk you should come every change you get. Which province will he be visiting?

Your SAL is looking great, I can see a similarity between the two. Fun to be stitching something that looks similar to something you've actually seen.

Good luck on the 10K training, that's quite a distance. I don't run, so it sounds quite intimidating to me, but I really admire those who do it.

Hope you can catch up with your DH over Valentines, sounds like a fun trip if it works for you.

The winter's been terrible in all parts of Canada this year - Hope that your DH doesn't run into any snags on the way over or the way back.

The 10k sounds interesting! Best of luck with your training.

Think I'd take the rain right now over the snow anyday! Much easier to commute in anyway. I haven't seen much of the sun my way lately either. My advice is to join your hubby for the week. Any change is good!
I don't think I could run for 5 minutes let alone 13!! Just imagine how awesome it would feel do the 10k though.
Love that lighthouse!

10k - wow, that's a tough one for a first one - but I have every confidence in you! And besides, when you're running for charity you can always stop running (there will be water breaks!) and take a quick breather. Well done!

Ohhh, don't tell me he's gone back to Canada!! Actually I can't complain as it looks like we might get 2 trips home this year - my parents' 40th anniversary is this summer and we've agreed that we're finally having Christmas at home this year - yippee!

Well done on all your progress - you have a very busy life and as you say any progress is something to cheer about! LOL :)

You can run if you train for it! My daughter was the same way - but she started training and slowing building up to it and then she suddenly managed to be able to run consistently! She did a 5K last year and is hoping to start training for a 10K this May. She says now its in her blood and she can't wait to get back into training .... once the snow is gone LOL!

Great progress on Dear Dairy. As for the running, I've never seen one that looks as if they are enjoying it! It's definitely not my thing! If you do decide to do the run though I wish you all the luck in the World for it.

I also hate to run but when I excercise I feel great so yes I think I would have the same dilema you are at. Your RR is looking good. I think you should go to Canada with your DH, the vacation would be good for you. :)

Ohhh--good luck on the running. I was in Glasgow and was so impressed at the number of runners/joggers who were out in the dark and the rain and in the city with traffic all around and running on wet, slippery leaves. Amazing!

Go to Canada! I would miss the blue skies too and wouldn't it be fun to get away for a week!
Sounds like you have been busy. Wow 10k would be an awesome accomplishment!

Good luck with the Run and training.
I'm not a runner!
Oh my if you can go to meet your DH in Canada you should. It is always good to get away. We are having a lot of snow here though.
I am about 3 hours east of that area!
Have a great time no matter what you do!

Your stitching looks great. Good for you, for working with the youth, you'll reap many blessings from that. I hope you end up joining your hubby ;)

I see that the percentage of church members really willing to get involved is universal the world over. Good luck with your new youth group. And, much luck with your 10k. Go, Cheryl, go! :)

I ran La Parisienne (6.5km) last year against breast cancer : had never ran in my 46-year long life, hated it, couldn't get over the 13mn hurdle at first... But I did it ! And so will you. My post on the subject was entitled : To run or... to stitch ? I ran. I enjoy stitching much better though ! Bon courage !
