More of the Rose

I clear my unread blogs in my google reader, go away for 2 days and its back up at 215 unread posts! I can't keep up with you all!

I only had one free night at home this week but somehow i have managed to work away on my EMS Rose Sampler in what little free time i've had. I really enjoy this, especially not having to change colour.

Hazel, to answer your question, the shading is as charted DMC 318 and 415. The red is DMC 115.

Im just back from an overnight at camp. We took about 30 girls away. This was a reunion weekend for the kids camp we have in the summer. It was fun and for the most part, dry. Im pretty tired today so intend on taking it easy today. Well, saying that, i must get some running in at some point, haven't been out much this week and the 10k is looming. My mum and dad are off to Spain today for a week, im very jealous!!

A question for you stitchers....When you stitch a bookmark, what do you do with the back? Is it just on show or is it covered over with fabric?? Im plan on making one soon but im not sure what to do.

Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks for that Cheryl. In regard to bookmarks there are several ways of finishing them. You can fray the edge then stick on top of a piece of felt slightly larger than the stitched piece. Or, you can hem the back so it has a neat stitched line down the center but you need to make sure you have left enough fabric for this. Once you have hemmed it then you can fray the top and bottom. Or, you can stitch a piece of felt neatly to the back like the do in the bookmark kits you can by from textile heritage. http://www.textileheritage.com/
They stitch their bookmarks on aida band so it has a nice edging on the front. Clear instructions for finishing as well. Someone sent me a bookmark that had a ready stitched back on it with lace around the edge. Don't know where you get them from but it is beatiful. Sorry for rambling, hope some of this helps. xx

EMS Rose Sampler is looking gorgeous. Check on the Focus on Finishing blog, I'm sure there was a bookmark tutorial on there, might give you a few ideas.

I think the pleasure of EMS Rose is with mainly using a single colour it seems to grow so quick doesnt it.

Bookmarks I would be inclined to stitch on a band so the edgings were done. I bought some ready made ones as described by Hazel but unfortunately it was in Thailand but if its any help they were made by PYM.

Hey Cheryl! I did a bookmark tutorial over on Focus on Finishing a little while ago. I leave mine alone on back, to avoid making them too thick.

I just use iron-on interfacing, it's very thin and tidies up the back without making it bulky.

Let me know if you'd like to try it out and I could send you some -I have a huge piece of it (like a metre or more!).

Your EMS sampler is looking good. I just started working on Part 4 today but no way it will be done before part 5 comes out. As for bookmarks I stitch, I leave the back for show though I am always so nervous about how the back of my stitching looks.

The rose sampler is looking lovely. You can mount bookmarks into bookmark card blanks rather like greetings cards. You can get them from Craft Creations or craft shops.

Rose Sampler is looking beautiful. I'm trying to work up the nerve to start it by the time I do all 12 parts will have been out for a while! I like Nicola's idea about the bookmark cards. I could then hide the back.

I use an Iron-on heavy fusible backing ...it keeps the loose threads in place and stiffens the bookmark up nicely.
I just cut the piece the size of the hemmed piece, iron and voila its done.
Have fun do what works for you!

Ohh! I love that red on the Rose Sampler, so romantic.
I have used a thin felt on the back of my bookmarks with a pinking shears for a little border.

Wow, this is so pretty, I love the red that you piced.

Any bookmarks I've done I've used felt to cover the backs.
I'm enjoying your EMS Rose sampler too! It's such a pretty stitch.

Wow, your roses are looking grand!!!!

I haven't stitched a bookmark. My friends who have don't cover the backs, but I think I'd be inclided to cover them.

My favorite way to finish a bookmark is to iron on wonder-under (or Heat-n-Bond) to a coordinating fabric, peel the paper and then iron on to the backside of my stitching. I trim all layers at one time, using the linen threads as a guideline. Looks tidy and doesn't fall apart :)
