Well.......i got the job. So i really should be thankful for that, yes? Im not. They refused my part-time request and i get the job only if i work full-time. Which i don't want to do, but i have to. If i don't i would effectively be resigning and would get no redundancy and wouldn't be able to get benefits in the immediate future. It makes me sick because i feel like they've tied my hands and i've been left with no choice. In this economic climate and the sector i work in, who is going to say no to a job?? I could be out of work for months/years. I love my job and im good at it, i just dont want to do it full-time.
BUT.....i really need to be grateful. A lot of people have been made redundant through this merger and will now really struggle to make ends meet. I did really well to be offered a position, it was a very competitive process. My boy loves his childcare. My part-time request will be looked at again in 3-6months. SO....this is a short-term situation and i need to accept that, deal with it and be thankful for what i have in life.

Sorry to hear about all this. You need to go to God on it and get a word from him and get your peace back. I got a word from him 7 years ago about quitting my teaching job even though financially things were not going to add up. So in faith I took that step and He has provided for us ever since. Sometimes it is hard and I waver but I need to keep going back to that word I got. hugsxxxx
congrats on getting the job but commiserations about the full-time bit! i had the same thing when dd was little when the woman i job shared with retired and full time hours came up, the whole dilemma of should i or shouldn't i go full time came up, but in the end it wasn't as bad as i thought and the bank account was certainly more appreciative..
You always have a choice so don't forget that. We tend to accept life as it unfolds when we could be making different decisions thatmay be better for us in some other way. Sounds like you have aced it though with a review to look at it in 3-6 months.
I agree with Maggie. Just be glad you have the job for now and use the time as a breathing space to really work out how you want to spend the rest of your working life. I worked in an office when I left school and thought 'If I have to work all my life, I will do something I really want to do' so I left and trained as a teacher - a decision which gave me a lovely life-time job and comfortable retirement. I'm so sorry to hear how things have worked out Cheryl. I am glad though that you're still employed. I think the fact that they are agreeing to look at things again in 3-6 months is positive though.
Take that time to think things over and decide if you can work it out otherwise.
Hopefully, when the review is done, you will get your wish for part-time hours. In the mean time try to think of the positives. ((((HUGS))))
There is so much more to life than working, I wish I had the luxury to presue my interests.
I hope they do reconsider your request and they make it a reality!
